Bringing Life to the School By: Carlos Diaz
Students in Mr. Ignacio Font’s Studio Art 1 and 2 classes worked on creating
a mural in the Ignatian center outside of the Roca Theater. Mr. Font, along with Director
of the Ignatian Center for the Arts Mr. Luis Dulzaides and art history teacher Ms. Maria
Inez Leanez got the idea to build the mural from the Visual Prayer panels from a graffiti
artist in London called LovePusher. The school president Father Willie Garcia-Tunon also
encouraged and supported the idea .
The students worked fervently to make the designs for the panels, and later
Mr. Font, Mr. Dulzaides, and Ms. Leanez chose their favorites.
“We had an idea set up but while we were painting we became inspired. We
decided to change the design to something that fit better with what we though would
better portray the school,” said junior David Gonzalez.
The students reproduced the designs chosen onto the panels. They mixed the From top to bottom: Painting the Visual Prayer panels, art students juniors Javier Samuel, David
paint and spent countless hours under the guidance of Mr. Font to be able to bring color Gonzalez, Gabriel Cobas, and sophomore Rodrigo Madiedo worked to the best of their abilities.
After giving a thorough inspection of sixth grader Brandon Amparo’s work, Mr. Font gives him
and life to the Ignatian center. pointers on how to improve.
“It was a fun and different experience to be able to express myself and also be
able to portray the Catholic beliefs of the school,” said junior Gabriel Cobas.
